F Johnston WJWIM1 V '( Editor Intramural basketball is hot at Dixie College! If you happen to go by the old gymnasium on a Tuesday or Thursday night, you will see many vehicles, hear the pound of a ball on a hard wood floor accompanied by yells and hollers of fierce competition. A group of friends get to together and form a team fv r - A. i that they think can beat every other basketball loving, college student. There are 10 mens teams in the program, consisting of eight to 12 members per team. The season contains eight games with a single elimination tournament at the end to determine the champions. Currently the top two teams in the league are the Untouchables and the Rockets. The tournament will be held the first week of March in the old gym. Coach Dave Johnston is the intramural director at Dixie College and said that he has always been a big advocate of intramural sports. It is something to do and I love basketball, Palmer said. Heidi Harrison is also an important part of the intramural basketball program. She sets up for games, keeps the score books and clock, and Organizes officials. She feels that intramurals is also important to keep people busy. It gives people that are not involved in the school sports a chance to play, Harrison said. So watch for upcoming intramural activities and get involved. That is exactly what Curt Anthony is going to do next year. Anthony is one of the leading members of 1998 Dixie baseball teams recruiting class after transferring from the Univesity of Nevada Las Vegas. Anthony is a shortstop who will play as a sophomore for the Rebels in the 1999 season. In 48 games with UNLV last season, the former Rebel batted .261 and scored 45 runs. Head Coach Mike Littlewood called Anthony a great defensive player and prototypical leadoff hitter. The reason Anthony moved from UNLV to Dixie is still questionable. Southpaw, Frank Pezly of Taylorsville and righty, Seth Johnson of Alta, who are two of the top three prep-pitchin- g prospects Utah. Dixie almost lost these pitchers to Division I school: as Johnson had offers from Miami, Utah, and Brigham Young while Pezley had visit: to Oregon State and Arizona State. Littlewood was also able to snag some quality catchers in John Buck and John Bowlingbroke. Buck is the No. 2 catcher in the state and is considered one of the best recruits of the recruiting class. Other top recruits who have committed to the Rebels are: Bingham outfielder Mike Basham, Bountiful outfielder Nate Weese and Taylorsville pitcherDH Brian Ball.
