The maze is there to help support charities. Two years in the making, the 330 panel maze was built by Aaron and Spafford Lynn Schimbeck. They are donating a percentage of the proceeds to Wal-Ma- rt Childrens Miracle Network, Kony Coins for Kids, and WCARC, advocates for people who are mentally handicapped. This could not have been possible without the donations and help of many corporations such as Malibu Distribution, Cleaners, Jones Paint and Class, MB TV, all radio stations, and others. Mayor Dan Mcarthur and the Council men and women made it possible also, because they readily approved the idea. Costumes were purchased from the Shakespearean Wal-Ma- rt Wal-Mar- t, Festival Old Retired Division. Spafford and Schimbeck do not know what percentage will go to charity because they lirst have to pay off how much it was to put the maze together. They rely on volunteers to cook1 and dress up and scare people. Anyone can volunteer. So far they have had an excellent turnout, said SpulTon! Hes not only a professor at Dixie College, but hes also a well known professional artist. Its kind-o- f like I have a drive to paint, he said when asked what he likes most about painting. And of course, like y DEVON A JEXNTHE DIXIE SUN memorial has been erected on the Southeast fence of Hansen Stadium for Travis Wyatt Cutler, who was killed at this corner in a tragic motorcvcle accident on Oct. 3 of this year. many professional artists, hes extremely good at what he does, lie attended Ricks College, Utah State University, and received his Master of Arts from Brigham He painted Young University. for 13 years before becoming a He became a teacher teacher. because he wanted a change from the isolation of painting, and also because he loves kids. Professor Parsons favorite things to paint are traits, particularly por- religious ones. lie says that he likes to give them persona, each according to the subject in the painting. He also likes to paint anything thats interesting to look at. Professor Parson says that hes painting all of the time. Right now he has done a cover for a book that LDS President Gordon B. Ilinkley wrote. lie also does magazine covers, and is now working on a portrait of Mike Leavitt, the Governor of Utah. He alio said that he'll put something in an invitational art show held later this year. He also paints for a probably company in New York when he doesnt have anything else to do, and judging by his record, probably isnt very often. His favorite artists range from Frank Vincent to Michealangelo. But the greatest influences on him are his father and brother who are both also artists. His statement for the world is, teach by example, and thats exactly what he does. Anyone who has him as a teacher knows how good he is, and how interesting his classes are. Dixie College is very fortunate to have him on staff. 7 |
