Show The Dixie Sun Page 10 Arts & April 15, D Ent, Accent Editor: Chaundra Stewart Trenchcoats Rock Club Miscellania By CHAUNDRA STEWART THE DIXIE SLN Can you think of six different ways to sing "Old MacDonald," and sing them in ways that won't make people clasp their ears in grief. TYLER t THORSTLDTHE " The Trenchcoats" entertained the Dixie audience with their reggae, heavy metal, religious, jazz, and beetnik poetry styles of the old classic. Anyone attending Club Miscellenia was not disappointed by the talented a cappella performance of the three gentleman from Seattle, Washington. Their act included television theme songs, and old favorites, with a sprinkle of humor. Anybody who has ever heard a cappella, four part harmony, knows that it is either a delight or headache. The talent was spectacular and the music well chosen and adapted. "The Trenchcoats" started their group in college at the University of Washington, inspired by a group called "The Nylons". The students decided that "we could do that and started to practice in their spare time after choir classes. Jamie DIXIE SUN Club Misccll.mia brings in a large ad once a month. This month they brought in the Trenchcoats from Seattle. They entertained the audience with a cappella songs. The producers of Club Miscellania with to give their thanks to the people that have supported the club and want everyone to spread the word about the club. vn TDvrwew Dieveney, second tenor for the quartet, arranges all th music for performance. Each member of the groi performed as soloist. Kent Anderson, the newest mer her of the group, joining two years ago, explored upper ranges as the first tenor; and Kerry Dahlen impressed the audi ence with as a fabulous deep bass, with a great Chewbacca impression. Doug Wisness, was completed the group as the bar tone, and a killer basketba player, according to Anderson at 5'1". The greatest difficulties being a touring singing group is the traveling, but they are rewarded by the smiles on people's faces, tl knowledge that they are improving as musicians, and the satisfaction of turn ing people on to music. "The Trenchcoats" entertained adoring fans follow ing the closing act. Jeff Barlow, a bass vocal studei at Dixie College, took advantage of the opportun ty and joined the group for a country number.
