Traditions have been a round since the beginning of time. They form families, religions, and even cultures. Every one, thing, institution, etc. has got them, including Dixie College. The most important one, according to the heritage of our school, is the infamous This tradition great simply began 62 years ago around this time. It started as a class rivalry in 1914. "...From the beginning in the class vied for conspicuous superiority. A contest for the use of the great sugar loaf to the north of the city was staged. Various classes tried to appropriate the broad face of the cliff as a base for their class insignia. Other classes tried to blot out the insignia, already up, and to replace them with their own. Bedlam and class fights broke out. finally it was agreed upon by all that a gigantic "D" should be placed on the side of the black ridge west of town. 17th 1950 issue of School Newspaper called "The Journalists Chatter". The girls then W'ere to prepare lunch(I bet some of the sandwiches has spit on them) and bring it up to the males. Finally the day ended with a dance and a banquet. Any student who did not attend the daily event was said to have had to go through "The Gauntlet" which consisted of the teachers spreading their legs apart and the absentee's craw ling through. (Can't you just smell a lawsuit?) Well anyway seven years later they decided to ha e a and in the 60's Dixie College set aside an entire week to help promote Dixie spirit. I must admit before I researched the origins of I thought it was just another "fun activity, " when in fact it is a part of our Dixie College heritage. something that everyone who attends is should be proud, and is not aware of. only a tribute to our pioneers, but a tribute to ourselves.
