Show February 25, 1997 The Dixie Sun Page 5 Accent Editor: Chaundra Stewart Shadowlands The sound of a pin drop would have rived the emotional tension, during the Feb. 19 opening of Dixie College's ShndouIamli, directed by Brent Hanson, and by the time the audience left the theater, there was barely a dry eye in the place. The acting was It is often difficult for a young actor to portray a character which much exceeds his years, but each cast member performed accurately. If the relationships are weakly established, this show can sing an audience to sleep, but the well-rehearse- d. love between Joy, played by Juliet Joy Hall, and Jack, played by Robert Roxburgh, left little to be desired. Another highlight of the show was Douglas, played by Bryan Stephenson, he portrayed a charming young gentleman and very impressive in his maturity. Aside from the dramatic element , the humor performed was precisely the antidote for the somberness. The only area lacking was the dialects. The characters of Jack and Warnie Lewis were mastered in their English localism, but otherwise, the jargon was e sometimes lost and left viewers cringing during the actor's strain to regain it. The principal theme of the play is shadows, as introduced through an actual quote from C.S. Lewis, at the opening of the play.
