William is one of tured in the 1995 film documentary Hoop Dreams. the students fea- William's story started in inner city Chicago where he was recmited to an prep school to play basketball. William with financial concerns, family issues, being a teen parent, struggled and having feelings of isolation off the court. Hoop Dreams followed Celebrity Concert Series Presents all-whi- te from age 15 through age 20. Everyone is welcome to attend. We need able students to help out with the school newspaper SUN NEWS SERVICE On the deck of the H.M.S. Pinafore, the gallant crew of Riverside Light Opera will perform one of Gilbert and Sullivan's most popular musicals. Dixie College Celebrity Concert Series will present this exciting show on Wednesday, Jan. 29-- 8 p.m. Dixie Center Cox Performing Arts. The cast includes the rosiest and roundest of women. Buttercup; the villainous sailor, Dick deadeye, the status conscious Captain, Josephine - "a maiden fair to see"and Sir Joseph Porter - First Lord of Admiralty. This entertaining show is over too soon, but at the end the crew, Josephine, the Captain and Buttercup are all happy... and so is the audience. This popular musical includes such favorites as I'm called Little Buttercup, Things are Seldom What They Seem, and He Is An Englishman. Gilbert and Sullivan's works, as popular today as when written over a century ago, are a testimony to their Between them, the two managed to produce a series of small satiric masterpieces that have long outlived the object of their satire. The Riverside Light Opera is one of California's premiere musical theatre producers. Each year they present five musicals, three pops concerts and a three show family bril-lanc- e. series.
