For musical lovers, the wait was well worth the result. 1 he film is the of story Lva Peron, the famous first ladv of Argentina, and tor the first time, I didn't view Madonna as an actress portraying a role, but as Evita. Madonna captivated her audience with her interpretation and voice, which gradually deterio- - rated with the demise ot her character. Often a death scene becomes unbelievable, and again Madonna successfully performs a scene with the pride and charisma that Eva P. ron would have displayed. The narration role of Che. portrayed by Antonio Banderas, appeared as multiple characters as appropriate to the scene. Though it was hard to view Banderas as anything other than the heart throb with good looks and violent films, in this he was a brilliant actor with a voice to match those of his co-sta- rs. I questioned how the story of Evita could be successfully performed with only a rating of PG; Eva Peron struggled her way through rather shady means. Despite the controversial material, the message was delivered through channels of beau- tiful dance. In early scenes, Eva waltzed her way into the arms of several men, and left them to prance happily with another. The lighting was intriguing. Though Evita is the heroine of the story, her personality had sever- al dark sides and was lit at the correct times to express the darker moments or to make her appear angelic. The film was beautiful, The music was an interesting mix of modern and theatrical which added power especially to the large crowded scenes. If you are looking for an incredible artistic film, Evita is a film not to be missed. 'DSSP THOUGHTS remember that fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me' I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I ?" "Well," said the Coach, "you never were really on the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought, something is brewing inside the head of this Coach He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on. -Jack Handy I e SUN NEWS SERVICE The BYU Ballroom Dance Company will present a two-hoprogram of lifts and turns in colorful costume on Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. The performance will be in the Cox Auditorium, and is presented by the Celebrity Concert Series.
