Dixie College has a number of Japanese students that have come straight over from Japan. These students are very eager to get involved at Dixie. One student, Yukiko Muto, commented, "Dixie is a good place to learn English because it is so small. The atmosphere is very different, but it is fun to learn new things every day!" Masahiro Doi stated, "Dixie College is a very small college, and here is not a big city. I'm from a big city, so I like this. The people here are It's a lot very friendly. different from my hometown, but I like being here." Each Japanese student must be very couragious to travel to a foreign country and learn a new language and a new way of life. It must be difficult. Katsuhito Fukushima was eager to speak on coming to the United States. "I think the U.S. is very free. In Japan, everyone goes to college and then to work. In America, I can choose anything." Junko Ito explained like America better than Japan because America is wild! Everything here is that "I bigger than in Japan. Houses, men, women, cars, streets, anyway, everything. Dixie College is nice. American guys are so nice, too!" these students may need help in making the transition. There are all kinds of things that everyone can do. One important thing might be to befriend them. They are people too, and like anyone, they need friends and a social life. If people can get to know these students, they can also benefit from their friendship. Foreign students are just as eager to teach us about their way of life as they are to learn about ours. Everyone at Dixie should take the time to get to know these students. Let's help make this the friendly place it is supposed to be. joining the program.
