All letters muot be signed to be printed in :ne newspaper Col- Council presented awards on Tuesday, May 10, to winning performers in the 1987-8- 8 Dixie College Theatre Season. Also presented during this Annual Awards Banquet held in the Student Center Sun Room were special awards for theatre service. Receiving awards for best performances were Walter Webb for Best Actor and Heidi Anderson for Best Actress in the Cameo Role. Travis Larkin won Best Actor and Lanette Barfuss Best Actress in the Minor Role. Supporting Role winners were Sean Sullivan for Best Actor and Annette Minor with Best Actress. And in the Major Role category, Best Actor was Rob Musgrave and Best Actress was Marydee Potter. Department, and to Todd Stoneking for his volunteer services in lighting and sound in Matt Rodgers was selected as having the outstanding performance of the year from his role as Andy in The Girl. A tribute in memoriam was presented to Mrs. Gladys Fox and Mr. Hap Lybbert in honor of their sister Venice Fagergren who had served on the Dixie College Theatre Council for several years. Theatre Service Awards were presented to Rose-MarTimmons for her Also U Service m Smith, ex Star-Spangl- ie ten-ye- ar dedication to pro- moting Dixie College Theatre, to Julia Bunnell for her services as seamstress in the Costuming Theatre. Technical recognized for Theatre were students Jennefer Tracy Vernon and Laura Deem. New Drama Fraternity officers for 1988-8- 9 were announced as Karis Rowley, fo President; Lanette Barfuss, Vice President; and Annette minor, Secretary. Natzke, an assistant professor of English and German at Dixie College, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Germany for the summer of 1988. The Fulbright Commission in Bonn and the United States Information Agency recently announced the 25 recipients of this award chosen only once yearly from universities and colleges across the entire United States. As one of these Fulbright Scholars, Professor Natzke will be studying ats the University of Bonn and Berlin. The Fulbright Program analyzes German contemporary political, economic, and cultural topics. Participants utilize and demonstrate German language proficiency, and the entire seminar is conducted in the German language. Professor Natzke is nearing completion of his doctoral studies at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He grew up in Cedar Falls, where he also earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in English with a German minor. After having received his German language training at the University of Northern Iowa, Natzke studied at the University of Vienna in Austria for a summer term in 1971. Secondly, classes begin on June 13th and not on June 9th. Heres a special treat for students - tuition for summer courses will be the same as for the Resident students. At Dixie College, Prof. Nat- zke teaches German I, II, and III, Short Story, Composition I and II, and Poetry. He has been teaching at Dixie for 10 years. Before coming to St. George, he taught for four years in Colorado and Iowa, at both the high school and college levels. In Colorado he was an instructor at Colorado Mountain at College Breckenridge and at Las Animas High School. In Iowa he taught at Dows High School. Prof. Natzke and his wife Carole will be traveling in Europe together after the com- pletion of the Fulbright Program. An artist of national renoun and reputation was announced this week as the successful applicant for the vacant art department opening at Dixie College. Del Parson, from Rexburg, Idaho, will be joining the Dixie College faculty for Fall Quarter 1988. His works have been published in many widely recognized art magazines and international magazines as well as LDS Church magazines, manuals, books and video productions. Glen Blakely, professor of art at Dixie, said of Parson, Del is one of the finest artists I am aware of. He is going to bring a lot of charisma and excitement to the art program at Dixie. He will also bring a tremendous national reputati6n with him. We are exceptionally fortunate to get him, Blake. ly concluded. She said, I talked to Prof. Blakely about it and then to Pres. Alder, who both encouraged me to have him apply for the job. Im so thrilled. This is something Ive thought about and hoped for, for years. Parson came to St. George several months ago, as a result of his sisters enthusiasm. He said of that initial visit, I came there and immediately felt right at home. I talked to Dr. Andersen and President Alder and was well received. Why even the other people I talked with on the phone were ever so friendly. When asked about his recent interview for the job, Parson I didnt really responded, know if I had a good chance for the job. Ive never been so e xcited about an opportunity in my whole life. He went on to say Im real- enthused about the people Im going to work with; Glen Blakely and Max Bunnell. I ly in c bi m ti VI 01 bi w m f think the programs they hae are tremendous. Parson was born in Provo, Utah and was raised in Idaho, where he attended the local school system, including Madison High School and Ricks College. He went on to earn a bachelors and masters degree at Brigham Young University. He and his wife, Lynette, are the parents of six children, the youngest being a brand new one month old baby. They plan to move to St. George as soon as their affairs in Rexburg can allow them to do so. Parson has previously taughl in Pinedale, Wyoming, at the Utah Technical College, University Brigham Young Ricks College, The Salt Lake Art Center and has been a prathe cticing full time artist for past eleven years. He has had his work in some of the finest exhibitions in the country and has received awards of national and tional renoun. interna M |
