Show February 14,1986 DIXIE SUN Page Basketball Teams Battle for The 1986 Intramural Basketball League (IBL) is nearly 3A of the way through their season, and with only two games remaining to be played, some tight races have developed in both A and B leagues. In the A league, Too Cold to Hold and Fresh are both undefeated, thanks in part to strong efforts in each of their of last outings. Too Cold stormed past Staffu 61-5- 2 Wednesday night, and Fresh held off a tough Pokers team in perhaps the most exciting game of the year. That sets the stage for Tuesday nights action a showdown between both undefeated clubs for a chance at first place in the league. Both teams like to run, acso be prepared for non-sto- p tion at both ends of the court. No matter who wins, it appears .the two squads will make the 63-6- 1, The Pokers (2-and the Rabbits (3-appear to have the inside track for the other two spots, with Staffu (3-still in the hunt. In the B league, the four play-of- f spots have almost been decided in the first five games of the year, but lots can happen over the next two weeks. play-off- s. Andys has virtually dominated every game they have played so far, winning each contest by at least 10 points, en route to a 0 record. Parkers is the only other undefeated team at with the Who and the Slug Busters at 1 each. Both Andys and Parkers appear to already have a chance n in action, as each have relatively easy games coming up. Andys might be tested by the Busters on Tuesday, while the Parkers play teams 5-- 4-- 4-- post-seaso- Births Play-Of- f with a combined record of if thats any indication of what their chances are winding up 8, undefeated. The Who, who started off the season roughly in losing to Andys by 21 points, have bounced back with four consecutive wins, including a 0 upset over the Confused, who were obviously confused in dropping their second game of the year. The Slug Busters may have the most difficult time reaching the play-offwith Andys and the Confused lying ahead. If the Busters happen to lose both games, it might allow either the Silver Bullets or Slug Classic to grab a (who are both playoff spot. The Confused and the PHQs are longshots with each team owning a 2 45-4- s, 2-- mark. Dixie Faces Snow Today With only five games remaining before regional play begins, the Dixie Rebel basketball team finds itself between a rock and a hard place as they battle Snow College against arch-rivtonight at 7:30 in Ephiram, al Utah. The game is crucial for Dixif they hope to repeat as ICAC champions. The Rebels own a 2 record in conference play after dropping a tough 5 loss to Utah Tech on January 8th. Dixie goes into the contest still tasting the bitter flavor of defeat from the last time these two clubs met back on January 17th, when the Badgers erupted for 51 second half points on their way to an 3 victory in St. George. The two things Dixie must improve on are and defense if they hope to stop Snow cold in their tracks. The Rebels only shoot 67 percent from the line, and despite averaging over 84 points a contest, they give up 75, which is n a bit much when in rolls around compitition three weeks. After the Snow game, the Rebels wind up the season with four in a row at home. They host CNCC on the 15th of February, BYU J.V. on the 18th, CEU on the 21st, and finally SUSC J.V. on March 1st. The home-couadvantage will be a definite help over the final games of the season, but a loss at Snow would all but nail the coffin shut on the Rebels hope for the number one conference spot.BF 1 1 foul-shooti- post-seaso- rt NJCAA champs will rely heavily on the shoulders of freshman Todd Crow, who leads the team in scoring with a 19.4 average, the outside bombs of Byron Vaetoe re- power of Josh |
