Show Valentines Day Around The World Today is February four- teenth. Thats right, today is St. Valentines Day. At least two Saint Valentines were beheaded on Feb. 14th around 269 A.D. In 469 A.D., Pope Gelosius' set the date of Feb. 14th in memory of the two martyred men. Although the actual number of St. Valentines remains unknown, two have become popular. Around 269 A.D., the Roman Emperor, Claudius II, forbade young men to marry because he thought that single men made better soldiers. There are many ways of celebrating Valentines Day. In the United States, people send flowers, boxes of candy, and other gifts to their sweethearts. College students from all six major two year colleges, as well as Weber State College came to sunny St. George to test their marketing and management skills against the top students from around the state. Sixteen of the approximately 145 competitors were from Dixie College. Dixie Collge did very well, qualifying at least eight students to compete at the National DECA finals the first week of May in Atlanta, Georgia. Dixie College winners and their respective events were: Russ Nielson, 1st place in sales Decision Mike Aitken, who is the State DECA president placed 3rd in HotelMotel Management and 6th place in Restaurant Management; Jeremy Burgon, 3rd place in General Merchandising-Retailing; and Anna Taylor, 6th place in Apparel and Accessories.
