When grim death waits for his harvest, man, realizing his uselessness, instinctively calls on God for help. But is his faith in God strong enough to bring about the desired results? Has he not forsaken God until now, when the critical moment has arrived, his faith will not stand the test? This kind of a faith is not what God wants. He wants to be a true Father to us, His children, help us now and all the time, and guide us by His loving hand over the stepping stones of mortality. He wants us to need Him, depend on Him, and desire His help every day of our lives. As Jesus says, Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I say unto you that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. After all, what are mans sure, worldly resources except mere bubbles that will burst at the slightest pressure? How much better than this to have the certain knowledge that there is a God to depend on. And how much better to have the calm, steady light of His love to lead us out of the wreckage of our earthly hopes and desires into heavenly up-buildi- ng happiness. If we of today are not convinced by our own experiences of the need of a strong faith in God we should be by the experiences of others. In the past the rise and fall of empires, the destiny of nations and of people have been determined by the extent of their faith in God. When they forsook Him, He allowed their enemies to triumph over them ; when they did not forget Him, but increased their faith in Him, He blessed them.
