home in the Salt Lake area five months earlier Headley was accused of kidnapping and sexually abusing a 6- year-ol- d Deweyville girl in 1987 but the prosecution ended in a mistrial when Box Elder County jurors could not agree on a verdict In 3rd District Court Friday Headley proclaimed his innocence in that case but admitted he needs help "I realize I have a problem that needs to be addressed" he told Judge James Sawaya "I ask you to let me take the responsibility to get counseling because I am a responsible person year-ol- d "All I ask is you give me a chance" he said Defense attorney Andrew Valdez asked the judge to consider a jail sentence or a commitment to residential-therap- y programs But Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney Thomas Vuyk asked the judge to protect the public by
