Another class is using a large deer rack for balancing, climbing and rocking ' Also on the program will be a performance by Contemporary Dance Works, a trio which will present a work choreographed by Ford Evans, former member of Repertory Dance Theatre and currently a U. of U. faculty member. .The concert is under the direction Of Christien Ollerton, BYU creative dance director Dr Elizabeth R Hayes, founder e( the U of U Modern Dance Department. has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Utah Academy of Sciences. Arts and Letters Hayes, who has been on the modern dance faculty since 1940, was honored for her "long and devoted service to the U. of U as well as for her pioneering contribution and continuing vision of dance in higher education. Both are members of the U of U.s Performing Danscornpany First year graduate student Johnson received the department s second annual Dee R Winterton Award The award, established in honor of the BYU dance instructor who died in a 1984 automobile accident, is given to the modern dance student whose life and skills best exemplify what Winterton stood for Wettlaufer, a senior, was named at the Mounoutstanding tain and Southwest Regional Competition of the American College Dance Festival, held recently in Denver. She w ill now compete with other regional winners at the American College Dance Festival Tuesday through Saturday in Washington, DC. She also received a scholarship to the American Dance Festival in Durham. N C for six weeks this summer. "Digressions," a work choreographed by USU faculty member Cynthia Snyder, and Bill Evans For Betty," will be presented this week at the American College Dance Festival in Washington, DC. The pieces are two of 25 works chosen from across the country to be be performed. "Digressions" was originally created for a program presented in February by Dance works, a student dance group at USU. At the festival it will be performed by USU students Peggy Christenson, Lori Davis and Ruth Ann Lehmitz.
