by law enforcement agencies in Salt Lake Valley: SANDY — (Jan 3) A Salt Lake City man was treated at Cottonwood Hospital and released after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a bolstered handgun The man was at a friend’s home in Sandy when he either pulled or hit the trigger of the gun while carrying it ‘'from the kitchen to the living room at about 10 pm A bullet struck the man in the upper right leg and traveled just under the skin for about five inches The man told police he thought the gun was not loaded (Jan 4) An Sandy woman reported her car was forced off a road by a man who smashed all the windows and lights on her car with a hammer The woman was driving to work along Sandy Parkway (530 West) near 8800 South at about 8 am when the driver of a large older brown car cut her off The man then smashed every window on the car and all the head and taillights with a hammer causing about $800 damage The woman did not get a good look at the man because she closed her eyes and laid down on the front seat when he exited his car carrying the hammer The man apparently cut himself while breaking the glass leaving blood on the car roof that police collected for evidence The woman told police the suspect may be a man she was involved with in an accident last month in West Jordan She said the man who was angered that she was not carrying insurance came to her home last week and asked her how she would like it if “someone damaged her car and wouldn’t fix it” The man then said something similar might happen to her man and his (Jan 4) A daughter were bitten while petting a wild cat at then-homnear 800 E 11500 South The cat was euthanized and its head was sent to a laboratory for testing for rabies SOUTH JORDAN — (Jan 4) A man was booked into the Salt Lake jail after allegedly stealing a car from Arizona and then altering a Utah registration form to fit it The man told police the 1988 vehicle was a 1982 vehicle that he had rebuilt The man was booked on investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a fraudulent registration He was also wanted on numerous outstanding local criminal warrants (Jan 5) Two juveniles who fled in a car from a walking police officer were apprehended after the officer radioed for help and then gave chase on foot The two boys were in the Bingham High School parking lot when the officer approached When the boys began to run he told them to stop but they jumped in a car and sped off Both were cited for failure to obey a police officer SOUTH SALT LAKE — (Dec 31) A doughnut shop was robbed by a man who brandished an handgun and demanded the “big bills’’ from a e Spanish One suspect may go by the name of “Pepe” The two men managed to untie each other after the thieves left (Jan 1) the front windows of five businesses and two cars were shot out with handguns during the night The vandals struck businesses along State and Main Streets between 2700 South and 3300 South using two guns believed to be a 22 and 38 caliber WEST JORDAN — (Jan 3) Three people were injured in a rollover on “Dead Man’s Curve” near 6200 West on the Old Bingham Highway following a drinking party in Butterfield Canyon Two people including the driver were thrown from the car which landed on its top almost 30 feet from the road Involved were Riverton man the a West Jordan driver a West Valwoman and a 21 year-old ley City man WEST VALLEY CITY — (Jan 1) A girl was molested by a male who entered her home through a bedroom window The girl came downstairs and told her parents ‘There is a boy in my bedroom” The girl's father found no one in her room then called police The girl told officers a male in his teens placed her on the floor removed her panties and licked her between the legs When the girl started to cry out the man placed first his hand female clerk on New Year’s Eve but got only about $15 A male Hispanic entered WuicheU’s Donut House 2699 S State St at about 11:30 pm and brandished a black semiautomatic pistol “Hurry hurry” the robber told the female clerk “Give the big bills and the ones under the drawer” But the till contained only about $15 and the robber left with that after the clerk showed him there was no hidden money “Don't make any sudden moves” the robber warned as he fled (Jan 1) Three men barged into a residence New Year’s night tied up two occupants at gunpoint and stole Christmas gifts and other items The three robbers — described as — knocked in their mid-20- s at the door of a home near 2600 S West Temple at about 8 pm and resident for a asked the man named “George" One suspect then pulled a chrome semiautomatic pistol and pushed the victim inside The thieves awakened a second man and tied both up with materials found in the home The hands and legs were after the driver aroused the suspicions of police by acting pvery nervous" Officers summoned a “dope dog” to sniff the vehicle after they received information that the driver may have been involved in was (Jan 4) A booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Monday on suspicion of passing counterfeit money after he allegedly gave a pizza runner a phony $20 bill West valley City police officers ar rested the man at an apartment complex after the pizza restaurant pro- - vided them with the address of suspect the runner said passed him the bill The officers found an additional $2060 in bogus currency in the bathroom after they were given permission by the occupant' to search the apartment The suspect admitted he had between $47000 and $49000 in counterfeit bills He told officers he "knew the bills
