Show The Salt Lake Tribune MARILYNIBEC Mason holds little hope for Academy Award HOLLYWOOD James Mason will wing from his home in Switzerland to Hollywood for the Academy Awards though he says he holds no hope of being named the Best Supporting Actor. The veteran ac- I tor, who gives such a winning performance in "The Verdict, wont say to whom he expects to lose, taking the stand that, It isn't good policy to endorse ones enemy. However, he quite candidly admits that he feels an Oscar credit beside his name would help him in terms of more demand for my services and more money for roles." This will mark the first time Mason has attended an Academy Awards ceremony, though he was nominated for Oscars for both the 1954 "A Star is Born and the 1966 Georgy Girl." Interestingly, it could have been Burt Lancaster doing his all to grab a Verdict Oscar had he accepted the role Mason ended up playing But the way the British star figures it. "He needs a successful film, not an Oscar. He already has his." While James Mason, after 48 years of distinguished service, is still waiting for his. THE EYE OF THE STORM; Cindy Williams is occupying her time son caring for her while lawyers plod through the discovery phase of her $10 million law- suit against her Laverne & Shirley" producers. Cindy was aced out of the show, you might recall, at the beginning of last season, and is suing for payment of $75,000 per segment plus six percent of the profits of the episodes she hasnt appeared in. Attorney Bertram Fields tells me that depositions are currently being taken of Paramount-Texecutives, but at least that it could be two years before the case comes to trial. In the meantime, superagent Sue Mengers reports that Cindy isn't into working at the moment, that e shes enjoying being a mother. At least for now. FROM THE INSIDE LOOKING OUT; Theresa Saldana leaves for Mexico next Tuesday for a stint in Charles Bronsons violent The Evil That Men Do. That certainly comes as a surprise choice of work for the actress who a year ago was the victim of a stabbing attack that almost took her life and inspired her to create the Victims for Victims organization dedicated to helping the sufferers of violent crimes and supporting victims rights. I gave the movie a great deal of thought and talked it over with my says Theresa. group, March Thursday 10, 1983 BPEOAOADVANC H5 1 PREVIEW MORROV.8 :00 PM TOM SKl.I.lXk BESS ARMSTRONG High Road lb m China Fun and adventure at everv turn. been caUedjutnaturalfunmoral fits and Usabiout and Illegal! tobejiailed asjmcbf thegreatest i of Sv full-tim- S3 A GOLDEN FRED WEINTFtAUB TOMBU.l.fcXK HARVEST JADRAN FILM Present Production tor CITY FILMS A HUHON Film BRIAN G HIS Mil, It R( .M) IUlIIIVV RMMRoM, 'Also StaiigTwk IMHN Ull.lliKH HKIMI ET KUIIER I MuRI BRIAN W.ESSl.ll L ASSAM iRA CAVA Music by JOHN BARRY FA Executive Producer RAYMOND CHOW Based on ttie book by JON CLEARY MMHftft mo BUIOMICt no sjjnCFSTFD ' M TOMORROW ONLY AT: STARTS TOMORROW!
