Show BEE EXPERT DISCUSSES INDUSTRY IN COUNTY The beekeepers of Emery county were last week favored with a three-days three-days visit from Dr. C. E. Bartholomew, Bartholo-mew, who Is doing extension work under the bureau of etemology at Washington, D. C. Meetings were held in Emery, Ferron, and Huntington Hunting-ton on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Satur-day of last week, respectively. A greater production of honey by better care of the bees was the thing most discussed. A good representation representa-tion was had at each meeting and the time spent was worth while. Dr. Bartholomew is theoretical and praciti-cal praciti-cal in his knowledge of bee behavior. He has spent much time and money in establishing facts scientifically, and many weary hours has been spent at the entrance of the bee hive to learn from the little bee what science could not figure out. We hope the beekeepers will remember re-member and put into practise the advice ad-vice given which will be, without question, for the betterment of our Industry. The price for honey is most promising promis-ing from the stand point of the great demand for sweets and also, as the doctor stated, the many new customers custom-ers who are asking for honey instead of the low grade syrups they have been using. When it comes to food value there is no comparison. Honey is well supplied sup-plied with vitamine which is so essential es-sential as a life giving substance in food, especially for children. And yet people in our own county have been buying corn syrups paying 11 and 12 (Continued on page 8) BEE EXPERT DISCUSSES INDUSTRY IN COUNTY (Continued from page 1) cents a pound when honey was selling sel-ling here for 4 cents. Let us not let it happen again. Emery county honey is surpassed by none for pure water-white quality. It is well worth remembering that our honey now holds a first prize in the Carbon-Emery fair of 1914 and, in connection con-nection with Carbon, got first prize in the state fair of the same year. Also at the Panama Exposition held at San Francisco, our honey brought back a gold medal prize. Dr.. Bartholomew desired to im-press im-press most earnestly the need of taking tak-ing better care of the bees in winter. This should be done by placing ' the hives in cases large enough to allow for packing and a water tight cover. Those present who listened to his reasons for this extra labor and expense ex-pense did not go away and say it was "red tape". Let's follow the advice and prosper. A. W. ANDERSEN, Secty. w. s. s. |
