Show The Governorship. With not the least mention of the subject that is the biggest question that has bobbed up in the political a-rena a-rena for many moons the question of the governorship of our state and which is creating such a rumpus as the grand old party has never before be-fore known, with not a word on the subject throughout the whole of last Saturday's republican convention, there is considerable room for speculation specu-lation as to how the Emery countv delegation to the state convention at Ogden wil treat this subject. Quite a few of the ten named to attend the state convention are known to lean toward Spry for renomination, but it is just possible that they will change somewhat when they learn of the big opposition to the present executive that has been rampant in some of the other "cow counties" of the state and which is fast spreading to the more central counties of the state. The opposition of the Smoot forces to Gov. Spry's renomination seems to become more pronounced every day and the Emery county delegation are sure to have their eyes opened when they arrive upstate. There are very few hereabout who can see any chance for any man but Spry but those who are in touch with conditions outside out-side our own county have a different story. It is very evident that there is going to be one big fight at any rate before any faction wins out and there are going to be some very aggravated sore spots left as a reminder of the gubernatorial fight of '16 unless there is a liberal smoking of the pipe of peace before the fun begins next Tuesday. Tu-esday. Personally, we confess to no great love or admiration for Spry and are firmly of the opinion that there are a number of good republicans in the state st-ate who could and would do Just as well as Spry has done under the same circumstances and at the same time get away from the dilly-dallying tactics tac-tics that have marked the Spry reign almost continuously from its inception. incep-tion. It is true such a successor to Spry might not meet with the approval approv-al of some of those who got together some time ago and begged (?) Spry to again enter the race, but we cannot see how that would hurt the common people of the state whose interests never have been Spry's Interests. Be all this as it may.we offer it only a;: our personal opinion; but there is a point of view that the matter of the governorship of our fair stati should-be should-be looked from very carefully and that is as to the kind of a man you want to have the entire say-so on almost al-most every important measure intro duced in the legislature and practically practi-cally every legislative appropriation, large and small. Easy-going ways of late legislatures permit this regularly regu-larly as the legislative season swings around, the members of the same al-W9V. al-W9V. monkeying along until the 60th day and then get in a terrible rush as their pay stops then, with the result that the big share of the bills of the whole session are dumped onto the governor's desk for his decision as to whether or not they should become laws. This is not as it should be and is contrary to the fundamental principles prin-ciples of representative government. |
