C 5 STATE PREPARES TENTATIVE ROAD BUILDING PROGRAM rf Utah Drafts Budget on New Highway Projects is a dustless road to Heber and high type gravel continuously to beyond Venial The budget for 1932 contem plates continuing the present gravel road to Jensen four miles for $30000 MAIN HIGHWAY ROUTES THROUGH UTAH Tentative budget of the Utah state road commission for construction on the more important or transcontinental portions of the state highway system in 1932 shows a total at present of $1959500 I 40-5- This figure includes some items the financing of which is as yet indeterminate Something depends on con- gressional action and something on the ability of the counties and the state road funds to finance the state’s portion At present the budget car ries items totaling $1500 000 that are considered almost as certainties On the other hand it is easily conceivable that additional funds may be available for construction on these The important routes during 1932 present tentative budget is the result of carefully considered fitting of the finances believed to be available to the traffic demands of the state The figures given above or anywhere in this article have nothing to do with maintenance expenditures which are another large item in state expense They are not less than and vary with the degree and extent of winter snows and summer floods Construction Plans Construction work on the tentative state road budget calls for a total of about $2 400 000 during 1932 it is announced by Henry H Blood chairman of the commission Of this some $345000 is carried over from 1932 budgeted projects which were not leached that year for one reason or another Of the $345 000 about will be furnished by the counties $53 000 from state road funds and $255 000 by the federal government Construction projects on the 1932 9 budget call for an expenditure of 000 of which $535000 is to be furnished by the counties $440 000 by - the state $1247000 by the federal government and the remainder is ex pected railroad participation Of all the transcontinental routes m Utah U S 30 is fhe first to be com pleted to high type gravel standard This will become an acthroughout complished fact with the completion of the project now under construction in the vicinity of Henefer This route enters the stale from Wyoming near Evanston Wyo and travels down Echo and Weber canyons into Ogden turns north along U S 91 to Brigham City and then proceeds by wav of Corinne Tremon ton and Snowville to the Idaho state line Oil Surfacing The 1932 budget includes closing all present gaps in oil surfacing be tween Ogden and the Wyoming line all of which are m Summit county and the extension of the oiled surface westward 11 miles to Rattlesnake Pass from its present terminus which is 13 miles beyond Tremonton The oiling in Summit county will cost about $97000 for the 25 6 miles and that in Boxelder county about $42 000 There were formerly up to 1924 17 grade crossings of the double track mam line of the Union Pacific in Weber and Echo canyons With construction now under way all are elim inated A spur southerlv from US 30 at Echo leads through Coalville and Wanship to U S 40 at Kimball s lanch It is known as U S 530 In 1971 seven miles this side of Wan ship was oiled at a cost of about $26 500 and 4 3 miles between Pace s ranch and Kimball's Junction w as constructed at a cost of $38 000 The oiling of the latter roadway at a cost of about $10500 is budgeted for the current year U S 40 and U S 50 join near Salt Lake and continue westward to the Nevada line as one highway The split 8gam at Wendover On the joint road some $54 464 was expended m 1931 in Salt Lake county between State street and the Jordan river and $289 850 in Tooele county There the mam projects were the construction and oiling in part of the road from Mills Junction to GrantsviUe $54500 between Knolls and regraveling Wendover 414 miles at a cost of $202 000 and oiling 13 miles between Timpie and Knolls at a cost of $34000 Plans for Tear For 1932 construction work on this important highway includes $125 000 for the 9 2 miles of the new enti ance to Salt Lake by way of the airport construction of the section between GrantsviUe and Timpie Tooele coun 1y $80 000 completion of oiling be Iween GrantsviUe and Mills $13 000 with an additional $30 000 for oiling which may be divided between the GrantsviUe Timpie and the Wend overKnolls sections or may all go to either one As to the Wendover Knolls section the state road engineers are awaiting The grave!
