Show JOHNSON FAMILY REUNION on friday last the members of the family faintly of the lato late john johnson of this elty city gathered together at the opera house to the number ot of two hundred and twenty five to celebrate the one hundredth edth anniversary of the birth of the patriarch who left his home in tho the old country and came to utah for the sake of the religion which lie he had espoused and became a 1 big factor in the eaily catty up building of this community the dancing hall of the opera house was transformed into a bower by the profusion of flowers and autumn leaves in decorating the walls and on the south wall hung a large picture of the man in whose honor the family had gathered and underneath it was a sentence which read welcome to grandfathers grandfather one hundredth birthday the festivities began at 10 in the morning the members of the family ming mingling litiF together in happy informality renewing acquaint acquaintance ence and making new acquaintance acquaint ence tor for there were many who aho had bad never seen some of their relatives before at 1130 the first number cm the program wag was announced and until twelve the guests were entertained by listening to the speeches songs and read ings that had been prepared lunch or rather a banquet was served at noon which occupied the time until ti wo when the program was finished ini shed manager koford entertained the family by running runn ng through four reels of motion pictures and the bal tecc of the tha day anel evening hip tar K in dancing r tho family of the worthy deceased present at the reunion consisted of one wife 27 children including sons and daughters in law 86 grand children 70 great grand children 13 great great grand children other relatives 29 not nearly all the members of the family were present but an organization was effected tor for the purpose of perpetuating these functions and keeping the family together L P johnson v was as made president ephraim MickI esen vice president oluff johnson on secretary george L johnson treasurer and miss ada johnson member of the executive board A feature of the celebration was a biographical sketch of john johnson which informed some of his younger children of things they had never heard about the sterling character of their father one item worthy of mention was that when mr johnson decided to emigrate to utah he be dis posed of his farm worth over 2000 20 for and when he arrived in sait Ss lake city he was penniless and in debt having given his means to thoan who desired to come away from the old country but had not the money hy by strict economy and ana earnest toll toil lie he gathered enough of this worlds goods together to provide for hid hia fam fain ilyas it came along and do a great work beside in the up building of this c community mm unity ile he was a sterling example ot of tho the noblest work of god au an honest man and has left a proster ltv of which any man might bo be pond grandfather johnson went to his rests rest on the of february 1896 among those present from out ot of the state were mr air and mrs afro joseph johnson johanon Jo hason jacobsen and five children from deer lodge mont afoot mr air john ipsen and two sons from bennington idaho mrs mary munk and two daughters front from bennington idaho mrs margaret argaret Al anderson from grover wyo it Is the purpose of the family to have a reunion every year |
