The naming of Yvonne Shand Oliver, of Tucson, to the position is a departure from past practice. Previous superintendents of the state hospital have all been physicians. A Manti native, Ms. Oliver was selected from among 40 applicants from across the nation. She will be y adresponsible for the ministration of the hospital. She replaces Dr. Roger Kiger, who was relieved of the position last February. Dr. Kiger has since been acting as interim superintendent, a position he will keep for an additional six weeks, when Ms. Oliver will assume her duties. She brings good solid administration experience to the position, said board chairman Dr. JackTedrow. She has a comprehension of hospital administration as well as good grasp of mental health treatment concepts.
