Show THE MOUNTAIN ASH MALE they came they sang they captured A write up of their concert would seem beem unnecessary in hi view ol of the fact that approximately 1000 people listened to their glorious singing last thursday evening but we cannot refrain from giving our impressions of 0 the work of this matchless organization the singing ot of T th soldiers chorus the first number to america the last number the choir held beld the immense audience spellbound every number was applauded so vociferously that encores were compelled and most graciously given if tile the question should bo be asked which was the he classic of the evening perhaps each one ot of those who listened would have some favorite and so we are going to express our choice in the matter to us ns it sounded bounded like a voice from some other world was singing as the sweet plaintive soul stirring notes of that old familiar ballad rolled fru frka the singers throat and then when the chorus was nas reached it seemed that a company ot of angel voices took up the refrain and as they sang mail many an eye moistened and many a lip quivered as the feelings within the soul welled up and found relief in the tear drops that rolled c d unrestrained down the cheek and a 1 at the assemblage plainly showed that there were not a few thus all affect act ed the title ot of the song was genevive and the singer was godfrey price who sang eang this simple ballad as an encore to his splendid rendition ot of asleep in the deep it wag was glorious and the tha audience sat in breathless silence at as lie he proceeded to the end being assisted in the chorus by the choir in subdued voice and when the last note had died away an almost audible sigh swept over the audience the people being too deeply impressed to even applaud silence speaks louder than words sometimes and this was one ot of those occasions Jons when it was vas i all over we took occasion to ask a i number present what they thought of Genevi genevice ie and to an individual it was voted one of the best if not the best numbers num hers of the evening As tile the singers appeared app earea on the choir platform a gentleman in the audience fastened his gaze upon mr air harry lewis and concluded to himself that the choir was carrying him out of charity as he be was an old looking gentleman with white hite locks and must have been with the a sur such 11 a long I 1 time that he was a sort ol of pensioner when mr air lev lewis Is arose and be gan singing in his beautiful tenor that goulf soulful ill ballad mine always the individual who had been passing judgment felt like arising in the audience and offering an apology the premier tenor mr lewis was a surprise to ee eNe in tact fact and his solo was received with tremendous at ap ile he responded with a welsh ballad which brought the tears to the eyes of Cam brians present mr air george llewellen liewellen the big baritone of the choir scored a i triumph in his solo work ile he was first heard with the quartette in call john later in the evening hf tendered alie T ic nand Band in matchless style getting out the fine dramatic points ot 0 that difficult dini cult song and for the ovation which he received at the close ho be sang Long fellows 1 I shot an arrow the other soloists steve jenkins and gail ym in tat both tenors sang beautifully f ul ly and were warmly applauded but it Is in the chorus work that the choir excels to a man almost like an immense pipe organ they responded to the leaders leader every crescendo and diminuendo being observed in faultless style and every shading was waa given in perfect unison and the harmony was everything that the namo name implies it a number H he e uses no baton but by a crook of the finger a wave of the hand or an expression of the face he gets the most ravishing tones from the singers that can possibly be made by the human voice this was most wonderfully demonstrated in the big number tyrol in which every sound ot of the mountains is is heard beard and made with such remarkable imitation that it would be hard to distinguish it from the genuine in old black blach joe the choir demonstrated its ability to sing in major and minor key at will with never a slip in the pitch and in killarney that ballad so BO dear to the irish heart they transformed a ballad to a classic in italian salad the tone modulation and collora collocation coll oration dign was perfect act wild and showed the marvelous ability of 0 the director and singers in this respect the evening was the greatest of its kind in the history ot of brigham Brig bam the press notices announcing the coming of 0 the choir were fully realized and the audience went away from the tabernacle filled to the brim with enthusiasm tor for the welsh and especially the mountain ash choir the artists were introduced in a neat speech by mayor fishburn and during the intermission conductor richards hards indulged in some speechmaking which entertained aued those present remarks were also made by evans and williams of 0 malad the receipts ot of the evening were sufficient to pay the guarantee to the singers and net the committee which handled bandied I 1 them and the tabernacle a nice little sum the local choir members feel very grateful to the people for supporting the concert and aad are especially gratified at the artistic success as well as the financial success to the stohl furniture thanks aro are extended for or the loan of 0 the handsome bradbury piano which was used and to the local cambrian Cam brians s appreciation is expressed lor
