A meeting was held at Wellington last Saturday night following a dr?-Bitic dr?-Bitic entertainment and 162 acres were stfaed up by tne half-dozen farmers P'eient All were most enthusiastic assured the committee of a large actional .icreage. Members of the ttmittee and otner ojosters were told fa come to Emery at six o'clock Sunday :ternoon but were not advised of the tat that, instead of the expected early siting, some of the members of the local committee had prepared a 'pread the like of which was never witnessed before. Emery has long ben celebrated for the fine "feeds" ?lven on different occasions but this one had then all backed off. The reception "as especially appreciated by the committee com-mittee on account of the fact that a considerable load has been lifted from the shoulders of the general committee in this town, where the large acreage secured is due almost exclusively to the good work of tde locil committee. A beet-boosting meeting was held at night, several excellent musical numbers being intersperse 1 with the speaking another thing that was much appreciated. appreci-ated. On Minday night two cars of speakers speak-ers made the trip to Cleveland to hold a scheduled meeting but there were al-most al-most as many v sitors as there were local people out and it was necessary to arrange for another meeting early the next evening. A good crowd was out for this meeting and a good big acreage was secured in short order. A meeting at Huntington was held immediately im-mediately after the Cleveland meeting, and it, too, proved to be a most successful success-ful one. Something like 500 acres were secured here, nearly everyone present doubling up on his acreage. Another meeting was held at Ferron on Thursday evening and 400 acres were there signed up with everyone feelins most enthusiastic. Here, too, a gcod big number doubled up on their acreage while several new contracts were written writ-ten for large acreage. The Emery beet quartette, composed of Messrs. Brink-erhoff Brink-erhoff and Williams, and Mesdames Brinkerhoff and Pettey here again gave the official beet song in great style. The executive committee met at Hunt-!tington Hunt-!tington Thursday and canvassed the acreage secured up until then and everyone felt most encouraged. Another An-other meeting was arranged to be held at Ferron next Wednesday at 11 o'clock when final figures will be given and some other data compiled. |
