The other evening even-ing a great many of us were so busy with the flowers that we didn't go to the windows, and only a few went to make the castles. We'll see that the flowers are thoroughly nipped first. Some of them are apt to revive, or get quite all right again, owing to Mr. Sun." "Very well," said Jack Frost. "We'll all go to the windows tonight. There are so many windows and such lots of houses that we can all . have a fine time. But we must work hard, my workers, yes, we must work very, hard." . "Our work is like play," said Master1 Very Cool. And Chilly nodded his head, as did the other Frost brothers and workers. "Chilly," said Jack Frost, "you go In that direction and take with you half the followers. Then separate and go to all the different windows." "Will you go the opposite way?" asked Chilly. "Yes," said Jack Frost, "and Master ' Very Cool can come with me." Master Very Cool was delighted that he was to go with Jack Frost and Chilly was extremely happy that he was chosen as a leader. They all started off and they went to the different windows. "We'll build! castles," said Chilly. "Watch me as I use my magic brushes." They watched Chilly work and they followed his example, ex-ample, and in the opposite direction Jack Frost was teaching all those who had not yet learned how to make the wondrous castles. Now Chilly and his friends started In. They made castles and turrets and towers. They made great bridges which went between two castles and under the bridges they made terrible looking dungeons which they thought were very fine. Chilly made a flag pole on top of one of the castles and then he made a flag, of which he was very proud. "I think I will choose this castle as my own," said Chilly. They had been working a long time. "Let's all take naps in our castles," said Master Heavy Frost. He is one of Jack Frost's best workers. They all went to sleep in their castles cas-tles on the windows. Such dreams as they had of other castles and other turrets and towers. They knew how they could make them the next time, for in the dreams that come, to Jack Frost and his brothers, they get many new Ideas of castle-building. Of course they never have to be taught how to nip the flowers. But they are always trying new pic- I ) . tures and study- ) ing to make more wonderful ones -I u J all the time. "The children want to look out of their windows and you're in the way." Chilly and the others began to move a little and as they moved their castles disappeared with them. The children were getting up now and were calling to each other. "Oh, look at the wonderful won-derful pictures on the windows. There are castles too ! Aren't they beautiful beauti-ful !" Chilly, the other Frost brothers and workers were delighted. "You see, Mr. Sun, they like us." "Well, maybe they do," said Mr. Sun, "but I can't help you stay around. I must smile and talk in my usual wny and it's too warm a way for you to like." Slowly the frost castles left the windows, for they wore taken away and destroyed by the Frost Brothers. |
