Show s 10D The Salt Lake Tribune Wednesday June 20 1990 Gala 4-D- ay Park City May Limit Size of New Buildings Strawberry Days Under Way in Pleasant Grove Special to The Tribune PLEASANT GROVE — Strawberry Days celebration — complete with parades rodeos a carnival sports events pet show barbecue and a host of other activities — gets under way Wednesday and runs through Saturday Opening activities include a children's parade Wednesday at 6 pm in the area of Pleasant Grove High School Also at 6 pm a volleyball tournament gets underway at Battlecreek Park in Pleasant Grove An always popular event is the annual horse pulling competition scheduled to begin at 8 pm at the Pleasant Grove Rodeo Grounds Horse teams from throughout the area take part in the event Lyle V Thacker a liver recipient who uses his own successful transplant as a way of encouraging others who need similar surgery as well as to encourage organ donations will be grand marshal of the Strawberry Days parade Thursday at 10 am The parade is repeated at 6 pm Thacker a resident of Pleasant Grove gained attention in 1986 when he became the area's first adult liver transplant Events on Thursday will begin at 9:30 am with the opening of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum Tour and bake sale From 11 am to 8 pm there will be a flower show in the Pleasant Grove Recreation building office and a boutique featuring handicraft items in the Community Center At noon and again at 2 pm there will be showings of "Treasure of Lost Creeks" at the Pleasant Grove Library and at 1 pm a greased pole climb at the Community Center The volleyball tournament will continue at 6 pm at Battlecreek Park and at 6:30 pm the Strawberry Days Invitational — Men's Slow Pitch Softball Tournament - C&D Divisions will begin The first night of rodeo action will begin at 8pm at the Pleasant Grove Rodeo Grounds Thursday is "KSL Kids Night" at the rodeo with children under 12 free with a paying adult On Friday activities begin at 9 am with a gunshow at the Community am Center and continue with pet show at the old Library Park From 6 to 8 pm there will be a Wild West Barbecue the volleyball tournament continues at 6 pm at Battlecreek Park and the Invitational Softball tournament also at Battlecreek Park at 6:30 pm g A contest will be held at 6:30 pm at the Community Center and at 7 pm a square dance jamboree will begin The second time of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assocation-ap-prove- d rodeo will begin at 8 pm at the rodeo grounds The gun show will continue Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm at the Community Center all pie-eatin- Q Special to The Tribune PARK CITY — The Park City Council is considering a proposed amendment to the city's land management code that would require all new structures in the town's Historical District to be limited commensurate to the size of the lot The action comes in response to concerns that new construction is not compatible in size scale mass and design with the historic buildings in town Under the amendment for lots up to 1875 square feet the maximum floor area ratio can be 90 percent of the lot For lots from 1876 square feet to 3750 square feet the maximum floor area ratio can be 75 percent And for lots larger than 3750 square feet in area the maximum ratio can be 60 percent The area of the lot that can be built on is defined by setbacks and multilevel structures have to be set back from the street further than single-lev- structures In calculating the ratio for single-famil- y structures "400 square feet may be subtracted from the total floor area for a two-ca- r garage before calculating the floor area ratio For duplexes triplexes and structures the garage deduction shall be 400 square feet for each residential unit" the amendment reads "In an effort to further maintain mul-tiun- it 90-da- Judge Will Decide IRS Worker Case OGDEN (AP) — Second Circuit Judge Brent West on Friday will decide the guilt or innocence of an Internal Revenue Service worker accused of failing to process $250000 worth of taxpayers' checks Marilyn L Stanger stood trial Monday on a charge of tampering with records Following closing arguments West took the case under advisement Stanger is accused of keeping more than 100 checks in her desk beginning in 1986 and failing to process them Deputy Weber County Attorney Les Daroczi said the taxpayers whose checks were involved received letters from the IRS stating they were delinquent in paying their taxes If convicted of the class B misdemeanor count Stanger could be sentenced to six months in the Weber County Jail 0 Air ur 7 I Pfi June 20 II Emu VrUon when: June Recycling Specials 39° HAMBURGERS ft Cheese it 25° REFILLS Seating is limited so call today to make your reservations! its share of more than $250000 However officials says it is unlikely many utility customers will see a rate reduction as a result of the payoff UMPA members including Provo began receiving money from UP&L following a refund settlement approximately four years ago said UMPA General Manager Richard Judd UMPA purchases power from UP&L The state Public Services Commission required UP&L to return money to its customers after mismanagement was discovered in the company's coal operations Judd said Money was to be paid back interest free for seven years However UP&L now is offering UMPA member cities the balance of money owed in one lump sum Judd said The cities are Levan Manti Nephi Salem and Spanish Fork Municipalities could also choose to reject the offer and continue to receive payments for the balance of the seven years If the lump sum were paid to Spanish Fork through UMPA the city would see the last payment automatically funneled through an energy adjustment clause reducing customer's
