On one of the rivers In China a passenger pas-senger boat had just started when 1 man came running up and called out. "Stop, stop! and fake me on board " ' "You are too late." replierl the boatman. "If you will let me come I will tell you a tale." the man called out. Now pverybndv to hear a story, and so thp passengers persuaded the captain to take the man on board and he began: "Onre upon a tlmp a famous em eral led an army to the south to fiyi-.t an enemy On thoir way they came to a river which they had to cross They wrre only able to build a very narrow hridie. so that thev had to cross over one by one Tramp, i ramp, tramp, tramp: one aftpr ihe other tramp, tramp." The man kfpt on saying. "Tramp, traiip. tramp" for some time until the people grew tired of it At Inst une ! said- "Yes. but go on with the story" "You must let them cross the river." the man replied "One after the other tramp, tramn. tramp ' - Presrntly the people stopped- him agnin and asked him to miss all that part of the story, but the man replied. "They cannot cross the bridge in a short time: they must go slowly and carefully, one aflrr the other, tramp, tramp, tramp." and so the man kept on and would sav nothing else At last the boat reached the end of i's journey and the story was never finished |
