Show L. . CLEVELAND Th Republicans of Cleveland gave a v I free dance Monday night, at which the public in general took part to their enjoyment. The public school was closed on election day. The teachers of the public school have adopted the plan of overseeing the lunch hour. One teacher remains at the school house each day during the noon. All the children who Lring their lunches march into one room and eat it. This plan has proved successful so far. Threshing is progressing very slowly in this part of the country, on account of the damp and stormy weather. Mrs. Hazel Jones, of Castle Gate, is here visiting with her father, Mr. Jensen. Joseph Stokes and Oscar Carlson have gone to Black Hawk where they expect to spend the winter. Miss Nellie Anderson is home from Hiawatha where she has been working the past six months. Mr. Chantry the "bee man" was over here yesterday looking afetr his bees. ORANGEVILLE Election day passed quietly. The weather was fine and the people turned out well. There were a few who failed to register so were unable to use their franchise. Such mistakes can only be righted by seeing that it will not occur again. We unintentionally omitted mentioning mention-ing the Primary fair recently held and it certainly merits a word of praise for all concerned, especially the workers for their indefatigable spirit. There were many kinds of vegetables and excellent in quality. Among the many exhibits the most impressive to the female portion of "lookers on" was the needle work done by the Embroidery Embroid-ery club which is comprised of young ladies. Their work has been quietly and steadly going on for over a year, I meeting alternately at each members ! home every Thursday afternoon. The only thing that disqualifies a member! is to enter the bonds of matrimony and ! from all appearances the laws will have j to be amended or most of the members will become disqualified. Last week several of our town sportsmen sports-men went on the mountain deer-hunting. Three of the number, Terreuce Reid, Wilford Thayne and Frank Jewkes Jew-kes brought to camp, a beauty each as a trophy of one days hunting. The L. A. club met at the home of Mrs. Cora Cox Wednesday. This with the fact that Mrs. Cox cooked three meals for threshers and entertained the club certainly entitles her to the championship as an ideal hostess. There has been a considerable number num-ber of colds ot late on account of the damp, foggy weather. Mrs. Cena Johnson entertained the corps of Relief society teachers at her beautiful residence Monday last and a delicious lunch was enjoyed by all. A mass meeting was held Sunday evening to listen to reports of the committee on playground sites and decide which one was the most suited for our present needs. Their choice of the grounds west of the meeting house was unanimous and they chose. a committee to have the grounds prepared pre-pared for spring planting. As a move was already on foot to improve the social hall, one committee was directed to look after the two and empowered to choose more help if necessary. The Lauies Aid club will give a meeting meet-ing for the public Sunday right. The leading feature will be a lecture on "Home Sanitation and Beautifying of Home Surroundings" by Dr. M. W. Bigelow. It would be worth while for every one to attend, as this is a subject that we all could profit by and the more we concentrate our thoughts on these matters the healthier we wifl become be-come and the more beautiful will become be-come our homes. There will be a cleaning up day Saturday Sat-urday next and all that can be should be out, to help improve the general appearance of the town. The teachers of the school have been asked to talk the matter up in their several departments depart-ments so the children will become acquainted ac-quainted with the needs of such a day, 1 as they will be the future citizens. For this reason it has been thought best to arrange nturday that they might be free to join in the work. The town board and others will arrange the work later so there will be Bystem to work by. There will be notifications of the plan of work given publicly so there will be no excuse. Come, let us give that day singly and wholly to cleaning the town and our homes, streets and side walks. Be-sure to save all your leaves when cleaning up your yards for if you don't wish to use them they will make a capital dressing for our Park grounds. Remember! |
