Show Curing a Cribbing Horse. A typical cribber not only chews his halter ropes and manger, but also sucks In air. Wallace's Farmer says the latter form of cribbing is sometimes some-times cured by buckling a broad strap firmly around the neck. About the only practical way of keeping a horse from biting his halter ropes and the manger is to rub them with kerosene, fly blister, decoction of red pepper or some similar substance. Fly blister is made by mixing two teaspoonfuls of cantharldes with eight tablespoon-fuls tablespoon-fuls of lard. A decoction of red pepper pep-per may be made by boiling cayenne pepper In water. The theory of this treatment Is that the horse biting the parts will blister his lips, and, therefore, give up the habit. |
