It normally takes a scout about two months to earn a merit badge, but under the National Guard program, it takes only one day. In addition each scout is given a special forces badge to be sewn on his uniform at the completion of the project, he added. Lt. Watts said the training is required of Special Forces memliers as part of their military drill status, and puts the men in the role of an instructor. He added it is a good community service project.
