Show PREVENTION OF DISEASE CONSIDERED AT MEETINGS i The state board of health held its an- nual session at Salt Lake the first of the week. Emery county was repre- ! sented there by Dr. O. E. Coleman, county physician; Dr. G. W. Middleton : of Green River;, Andrew Anderson, Andrew Mortensen and A. P. Johnson, health officers at Orangeville, Lawrence and Huntington respectively. It is reported re-ported as an extra good session and much information was disseminated that will be of value to the people. Dr. Coleman promises a full report next week and in the mean time gives the following as his "conclusions" of of the meeting and what it should lead to: "It is within the power of man to remove re-move from the earth all infectious diseases dis-eases and it is our duty to contribute to this cause as much as. we can. "A few months ago I had the pleasure pleas-ure of reading to you a paper which I had prepared on preventing disease. On January 30 and 31, I had the still greater pleasure of attending the meet- ing of the State Health Board in Salt Lake City, having been appointed by the County Commissioners of Emery county this important duty. The object of these meetings is to instruct the peo- j pie of every section of the state in the best methods of preventing disease and suffering. "It will be impossible at this time to give a full account of this meeting but in the next issue of this paper I hope to as much in detail as may do us the most good in this section. "I believe that one important item should be mentioned here and that is medical inspection and supervision of the public schools. This work was i started here in Castledale about three months ago. The school board asked me to examine all the children, I did so, but at that time I was compelled through sickness in my own family to dismiss the subject for the time. Then too other obstacles came in the way and the work was still further- delayed. The idea will now be taken up again and carried to completion. Very soon the school board will name a date, when they, the teachers, the parents and myself my-self will meet and at this meeting I wish to state what I learned on examination exam-ination of the children, how disease and suffering can be prevented if these abnormal ab-normal conditions are remedied early, and what we can do in many other ways to keep our children and ourselves in a more healthy condition. When this date is named I trust you may all attend and give this most important subject the support it must have to be of any benefit." |
