Show ANDREW MORTENSEN RECEIVES BAD NEWS Andrew Mortensen, an aged farmer of Lawrence, came to Salt Lake Sunday ; and is at the White House. On his arrival ar-rival here he received the first word he had of the brutal murder of the wife of his brother, James Mortensen. and the mistreatment of their 15-year-old daughter by bandits in the state of Sonora, Mexico. Mr. Mortensen said that it has been more than a year since he has heard from his brother, James, who was a pioneer of Spring City in j this state, and resided there until 1864, when he removed to Richfield, where James fought in the Black Hawk war. Later the family went to Sanpete county. coun-ty. James Mortensen removed to Arizona near the Mexican border in 1880 where Andrew Mortensen visited him in the following year. In WOT James Mortensen settled in Sonora. He paid a visit to relatives in southern Utah about 18 mont-is ago. Mrs. Mortensen, the murdered woman was Mrs. Johansen of Sprii.g City and was married to James Mortensen 35 years ago. A sister, Mrs. Hardin Alfred, Al-fred, still resides in Spring City.- Des-eret Des-eret News. |
