Show Emery County Fair The Emery connty fair will be the greatest event in a hundred years. We'll show the finest turnips ever raised in a hundred years, and we'll do a hundred other things all in a hundred years. It's strange indeed that with all our talking, boosting ami knocking that we can't bring the date of this wondrous event nearer. The editor has a couple of shoats he would be pleased to exhibit in some gilded pen at the fair, and we believe that three more could be procured pro-cured if some one would only do something. some-thing. We raise corn, wheat, oats, alfalfa, alfalfa seed, sugar beets, potatoes, all kinds of fruit and a- hundred other things; the county is rich in coal, copper, oil, gypsom and alum. We have some spotted cows, lined-backed calves and i white sheep that have not yet been fleeced. These would all help to make a show and if the farmer could be given the privilege of entering a contest for I a prize of fifty cents or a dollar, there j would be some inducement for him to breed his chickens and stock up. He would feel like raising pumpkins that you have to haul on a wagon with an extended reach. Emery county ought to wake up to to the fact that she is terribly behind the times in this regard. Every county paper of the state is boosting for a fair and most of the counties are having fairs that will be the means of better stock, better crops and a better output out-put than has ever before been produced. The state legislature gave the commissioners com-missioners the power to levy a tax if need be for this very purpose, and we are really of the opinion that our commissioners com-missioners would be willing to help us hue they will not undertake the project. It's rather late to begin this project but couldn't we do something still? This is the suggestion that we desire to make. President of the County Commercial Com-mercial Club, call a meeting and discuss the advisability of establishing a county fair organization and not only discuss it but form the organization and instruct the officers to go ahead Having full power to act these officers and committees commit-tees can start the ball rolling and the date of the great Emery county fair will be nearer than a hundred years. So many things can happen in a hundred years that we don't like to reckon on being there. We might all be dead. The Agricultural College is alive to the situation and we are informed that they will send experts to assist us in acting as judges in deciding questions as to who has the finest stock, peanuts or strawberries. Let's all boost for a county fair and get a little closer together. to-gether. If we don't pull together we pull alone. |
