Granger High will hold their Sadie Hawkins dance on Saturday, March 18, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Stonehedge will provide the music. Hunter High will have the Harry Hawkins Stomp on March 24, 2000 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Cyprus Learning Network will be having a community activity on March 30 at Cyprus High. The contract for construction of the new junior high was awarded to Comtro, Inc. The bid was in excess of $17.3 million, but it was the lowest one submitted. The new facility will be located at 7600 West 3600 South. It is necessary to alleviate the over crowding at Brockbank and Hunter Junior. 252-960- untft Judy Weefe Special thanks goes to Harmons Grocery Stores for supporting our local schools during Harmons PTA Day. Dozens of volunteers, teachers and students decorated the stores and bagged groceries for customers during the day. Monies were then donated by Harmons to the participat- ing schools. They are a great advocate of business sponsorships as they allow their employees to go over to Farnsworth daily and work with youth in the school. March 2000 and no classes will be held that day. The Granite School Board made many significant administrative changes during our board meeting last Tuesday. We appointed two new assistant superintendents. Kevin Hague will become Assistant is SEOP (Student Education Occupation Plan) meeting month for junior students, their parents and counselor. It is time for students to identify personal and educational goals. Counselors focus individually on each student to identify specific strengths, talents, etc. If you havent heard from your junior high or high school, call them and schedule a meeting. Last week the Granite School District dedicated a new Cosmetology Barbering facility located on the southeast end of the Granite High campus. This is one of the many new courses offered through the Applied Technology programs in the district. These classes can help prepare students for school and careers following high school. Students do not have to be enrolled in the schools where the courses are taught. They a magnet programs and any student in the district can take the courses. If you have a student that is inter 1. ested in ROTC, Taylorsville High School has just the program. Contact your schools for a catalog of other offerings. Talk to your neighbors and spread the word about the terrific programs and academies the Granite School District provides. Hunter Junior Highs Dress for Success vote was defeated when the votes were tallied on Friday, March 3, 2000. Angela Wilson chaired the community committee, devoting many hours to the project. Due to some confusion about the absentee ballots, the Granite district administration is reviewing the process. I will keep you informed of any changes. Brockbank Junior High is Superintendent over School Services, replacing Dale Baker who retired effective April 1 , 2000. David Adamson will become Assistant Superintendent of Pupil mentary curriculum. Congratulations to all the new appointees and best wishes to those retiring. We will really miss those who are leaving. They have all completed many remarkable feats school uniforms also. We also approved the following make-u- p days because of the recent teacher protest, which closed Granite schools: Monday, April 24, Services, replacing Julene Oliver who is retiring. Louie Long, currently principal at Cottonwood High School will become senior director, Secondary Schools, replacing Barry Richards who is retiring. Sharon Prescott will become senior director over elementary schools. Kathryn McCarrie, currently principal at Kearns Junior High will become director special education. Some of you will remember Kathryn when she was the assistant principal at West Lake Junior High. Another West Lake alumni, Linda Mariotti will become the director going through the process of Further Information... Education Highlight: EDITOR Students of Granite School District will have to pay for the walkout staged by their one-da- y teachers on Monday, Feb. 28. Depending on their school, students and teachers will skip a scheduled three-da- y weekend that had been scheduled for April 1 4, April 24 and May 26, according to a decision by the Granite District Board of Education. The teachers, members of the Granite Education Association staged a protest of the one-da- y Utah Legislature for not approving (or appropriating) the amount of money teachers felt was needed to improve conditions within the district. District Superintendent Stephen Ronnenkamp said the make-u- p days were chosen by the districts Calendar Committee and the Granite Education Association was the only union in the state to stage a walkout. Heres a breakdown of school make-u- p days: Students on Track D in d elementary schools will make up the day on Friday, year-aroun- April 14. Ten days later, on Monday, April 24, students in traditional elementary and secondary schools, elementary trimester schools, extended-yea- r elementary, d schools on tracks and and A and B will attend the makeup day. Students attending -track elementary schools will be in class on Friday, May 26.' year-roun- single- The only students in Granite District not required to make up a day are those who were on Track C because school was not in session the day of the teachers walkout, it was explained.
