There arc lots of disappointments in life, but me thinks the state basketball tournament may be the iorSt You go there with a good leant and great expectations. You long to play on the college floor. They lost in the first round to a team with a bad record. They were beaten by a team with half their ability. It was a big letdown. Im sure the Olympus coach felt like someone had kicked him in the stomach. 4-- It was a big time letdown The Pirates went up to Weber with high hopes. Most of the town went with them. We were just a little off that day. We had a great record. What a letdown. Our last state championship at Cyprus was 1955. Thats a long drought. We all wanted it. Didn t wc? Thirty-fiv- e sibly the largest crowd to ever witness a girls high school spotting event) Kearns fans erupted in celebration as the ball bounced off the rim and the Cougars were crowned 42-4- champions. Kearns coach Bob Ostberg, who has been coaching the team since 1992, has never seen anything like it. Our fans are the greatest," said Ostberg. Every week the crowd just got bigger and bigger and our coaches and players just want to thank the community for their support. Ostberg who took over the program in 1992 had a total of nine players to play on the varsity and junior varsity squads combined. There are really no Kearns High School has its own version of the dream team, that along with a strong supporting cast helped lead the kearns Cougar Ladies basketball team to the state title. Every girl on this team made it possible for us to win state and every girl played together with only one goal in mind and that was the state championship.
