Lucia is honored each Dec. 13 in Sweden, where n daughter of each household rises early and serves Lucia buns to her family, dressed in the white robe and red sash that have come to symbolize St. Luba almost as much as the crown of body and lighted candles. Although Luba herself was a fourth century Italian martyr, the celebration of her day is always associated with Sweden. In Salt Lake City, SL Lucia's day is a congregational event. Sl Paul's parish members watched as last years St. Lucia, Robyn Zumwalt, crowned Denise Koivula as St. Lucia for the 1981 Christmas season, while the audience sang the tong which explains the meaning of Sl Lucias Day to the Swedes who live near the dark (in winter) Artie Circle: Through silent winter gloom. Thy song comes winging To waken earth anew Clad carols bringing Come thou, O Queen of Light. Wear jig thy crown so bright, Santa Lucia! The past and present Sl Lucias and alternate Marla Potila then pasted around Christmas cakes and cookies to the audience in lieu of Lucia buns. The Santa Lucia celebration followed a potluck dinner. Upcoming events at SL Paul's include a children's Christmas program Sunday at 6 p.m. Worship service is Sunday at vice. Kotvula. Alternate Marla Potila, left, also participated SL Paul's Lutheran.
