They got 15 yards back on another pass completion from Noel to Doss to the six, but when a fourth and goal pass fell incomplete, Gunnison took over. A holding penalty on the Bulldogs pushed them back to their own three. Gunnison dodged a bullet on the next play when an apparent fumble was ruled dead on the five. After a short gain set up a third and eight, Kanab held to set up a Gunnison punt. Josh Bentley broke through the line and blocked the punt out of the end zone for a safety and Kanab trailed 7-- 2. Colt Niemann returned the Bulldog kickoff all the way back to the Gunnison 38. Noel scrambled for 1 1 yards on a third and five for a first down on the Gunnison 22. After three plays netted one yard, the Cowboys were faced with a fourth and nine.
