Show mui "iiiTiTi'm SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Community Garkane Energy election results Members ofGarkane Energy Cooperative reelected three incumbents and selected one newcomer to join the cooperatives Board of Directors during Annual Membership Meeting Sessions held in Centennial Park, Arizona on April 23, Escalante, Utah on April 24 and Koosharem,UtahonApril25,2001. IncumbentDirectorM. LaDon Torgersen, Koosharem, was unopposed in his election and will continue to serve as the Board Member from District 1. In Garkanes new District 9, Boudicca Joseph will continue to serve as a Board Member after defeating Richard Specht by a tally of 103 votes to 42 votes. Both J oseph and Specht are residents of the Kane County community of Big Water. Joseph was initially elected to the position in the summer of 2000, when the new District was created, encompassing Garkane members in Eastern Kane County and the Arizona Strip. ers and representatives to Lee Spencer, Escalante, defeated challenger Lenza Wilson to retain her position on the Board. Spencer received 156 votes, while Wilson, also an Escalante resident, garnered 129 votes. In a closer race, Robert J. (Bobby Joe) Ott, Tropic, was chosen as the new District 6 Director. He received 133 votes, edging out Carl Boyd, also of Tropic, who received 1 17 were held in connection to this year's Garkane Annual Meetings. Members in all districts had the opportunity to vote on Amended Articles of Incorporation and Amended Bylaws. Both measures were approved overwhelmingly. The Articles vote was approved by a margin of 1,352 votes to 86 votes, while the Bylaws vote showed 1,369 members voting for the measure and 84 members opposing. Among the items included in the newly adopted corporate documents is the official change in the cooperatives name from Garkane Power Association, Inc. to Garkane Energy Cooperative, Inc. Torgersen, Joseph and Spencer will all serve three year terms, while Ott was elected to fill out the final year of Wilsons term.
