SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY SPORTS By Rory Brunner Three former Kanab High School football standouts represented the 2A squad in the an- nual Utah Coaches Association 2A vs 3A game held in Cedar City at Eccles Coliseum last Saturday evening. Matt McFadden, Chad Sturgill and Brandon Allen had one more chance to lace up the pads, as they headed to Blanding to practice at San Juan High School on Wednesday. After practicing the rest of the week, the trio, as well as the rest of the 2A team, traveled to Cedar City for the showdown. McFadden got the start at middle linebacker and was captain of the defense, while Sturgill got the nod as starting cornerback and the versatile Allen took the starting job at All-St- All-State- ar rs JUNE 30, 1999 center, although he was an defensive tackle and played tackle on offense as well. All three of them also saw considerable time on special teams. The 2A team had won the last three previous games, and held a 1 record since the charity game was started six years ago. However, the 3A team would steal this one and come away with their second victory. The 2A team held a good lead for all-sta- all-st- te muffed and the score was 0 2A. The 2A offensive woes continued, as Grantsville tight end Joel Butler fumbled the ball after a catch and 3A took over on the 2A 33 yard line.
