Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Opinion A WEDNESDAY JUNE 9, 1899 Dixie Speaks sentiwas recently criticized for ments expressed in the SUN Letters to the Editor. They said they would write a letter expressing a different view, but feared community reprisal or that I wouldn't publish it. The whole incident has angered me. A Letters to the Editor column provides a community forum for readers to vent or express their opinion on a subject. If the majority of letters express the same opinion, it probably means that's what the majority of the community believes. That doesn't mean that other opinions aren't right, important or valid. While I do not attempt to control what is written, I certainly don't agree with everything either! But that's OK, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. People form opinions based on a number of factors including upbringing, religion, education and life experience. We've all had different experiences, so naturally we have different opinions. And that's a good thing. I personally enjoy a good, healthy debate on issues. It exposes us to a new way of thinking about a subject, and heightens intelligence on both sides!
