Johnson will be attending and working through correspondence for approximately one year with the Judicial College. The council agreed to compose the letter of support. Judge Johnson further asked for the councils support of the Youth Court program. Youth Court is a program designed to expedite juvenile cases which come before the court, for offenses such as: illegal tobacco use, truancy and curfew. In order to qualify for Youth Court, youths must plead guilty. They appear before a panel of three peers and a youth judge. There are no fines levied. Sentencing is in the form of essays, community service and apologies. Each case will be reviewed by Judge Trevort to see if it qualifies for Youth Court before it i s assigned. There will always be an adult present at the proceedings. At this time those individuals are Gary and Jeanine Johnson and Ferril Heaton. Mayor Alvey and the council lent their support to Johnson, thanking him as well as Jeanine, Ferril, Police Chief Crosby and Council member Rosa Lie Coleman.
