WEDNESDAY AUGUST 19, 1998 J 2 Utah Highway Patrol By Trooper Russell Whitaker For the First week in August, troopers of, the Utah Highway Patrol stopped;a total of 164 vehicles,, issued 106 citations, wrote 70 warnings, investigated seven accidents, assisted six stranded motorists, and took one impaired driver off the road. Trooper Nordfelt thought it was a strange place to park a car, but later found out that the brake line had broke on Scott Adamsons car. Scott was preparing to turn onto the upper road leading to Best Friends when he noticed that he wasnt going any slower when he applied pressure to the brake pedal. Trooper Nordfelt found Scott and his car stopped on the nearest available spot, which happened to be the next guardrail. Narcotic analgesics are prescribed to patients to assist in the killing of pain. Marjorie Bee, Tropic, had been in the hospital in Garfield County for unknown reasons, but probably had something to do with being in pain, as she had been given several of the painkillers. Trooper Keller, g and a Boy Scout, were glad to assist Mrs. Bee when called upon. Mrs. Bee had suspicions that the hospital staff may have given one too many painkillers because the pain had gone away and she was starting to feel a little better than she shouldhave. Needing to get back to Tropic the safest way possible, Keller assisted her with a front seat patrol car ride home. trailer and jet skis, and most would almost equal that of my likely would have been considered a accident had not consumed he enough alcohol to start the booster rockets of non-report- ed the next Challenger Space Flight. Trooper McCleve sponded to the minor accident and immediately sectioned off Hodie for fear that a cigarette or spark might ignite the volatile ' vapors coming from his breath. By the end of the investigation, the folks with the jet skis were again on their way and Hodie re- . was booked into the Kane County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. A motorist had parked in a scenic spot off the side of the read near milepost 37 to enjoy the view and eat a sandwich. All of a sudden, not 20 feet away, Jason Dubois came rolling by in a small truck. When I say rolling by, I mean vaulting! Jason was driving home from Lake Powell when sleep over took him. Jason woke up somewhere during the second vault and immediately remembered the two promises he had made his father prior to leaving: Buy a large Coke and dont fall asleep. When the dust settled, Jason found that he had only a couple of bruises from the accident.-- Did I mention that he rolled many times over the course of 600 feet? Margean Schow and Orilla Cowles were cruising main in , Escalante when the two elderly ladies attention somehow got distracted from the road. The accident that Hodie Thierry Mieg, France, was surLayland was involved in only prised when he was hit by the caused minor damage' to the two ladies, whose ages combined life-lon- . x badge number. Trooper Keller investigated the accident and reported that 94 year Orilla was eventually flown to the University of Utah Hospital for additional medical treatment. No other injuries reported. Duck Creek contractor Bill Blake will be taking the next six weeks off work due to a broken leg. Bill.plans to utilize this time off of work to invent several new items, first being a more comfortable crutch. The next item to invent will be a sticky, silly puddy type substance that you can place all over your cell phone so it wont try to slide off the seat when you go around a sharp, steep, mountain curve. The last item he wants to invent is a second pair of eyes that will always be on the road. Bill hopes to have all of these things in production prior to him going back to work. Bill would also likepublicinputas to whether the eyes should hang from the rearview mirror like fuzzy dice, or stuck to the dash with the sticky, silly putty type substance. Portable breath testers are used by many of the officers in the Kane County area to assist in the detection of alcohol consumption. A juvenile female in Kanab makes this week's best excuse by stating that the rea-- " son why Trooper McCleve. received a positive test on his PBT was because she had fallen asleep on the couch and her friends had blown their breath into hers. This female honestly believed that McCleve was going to buy this story. N ot buying this story, McCleve issued a citation for minor consumption.
