Show V- -- 'gWl -' i'-- 4 'W Feature Canyon Country Quilt Guild: Using their quilting skills to help others By Barbara Pyles It's as as it can g be: squares of fabric that will one day become part of a quilt. All the same, quilting is in. The Canyon Country Quilt Guild meets the second Tuesday of every month from 3 p.m. at the Rancho Fire Station, unless otherwise posted m the SUN. Unlike their forebearers in colonial time, the women travel many miles to share a common interest. Members come from Glendale, Orderville, Mt. Carmel. Fredonia and Kanab. After organizing in 1984, the group held their first quilt show on April 25, 1985 in the basement of the Fredonia Library. According to Leta Wallace, president, the women of the Quilt Guild use their quilting skills to help others. Its their way of saying thank you to the community. In the past, members donated a tie quilt to the Ronald McDonalds House in St. George. Recently, after Kay Willardson made and donated a sampler quilt top to the club, the quilters got busy and hand stitched the quilt, then held a raffle. Money earned Hand-stitchin- 1-- went to the Kanab Library. Last year busy hands made a Utah Centennial Quilt. It was donated to the Tourist Information Center, where it is on display. This year, Cindy Fuelling made three children's quilts and donated them to foster children. But thats not all, every month each member makes one or more quilt blocks using patterns presented as blocks of the month. Those who participate in the task enter a drawing for the blocks. In February' the blocks were won by Cindy Fuelling. She turned the heart blocks into a quilt top. Once again, members of the Guild got busy and hand quilted the quilt, then donated it to the Kane County Hospital. The colorful quilt hangs in the main entrance of the hospital. In a year, the quilt will be sold with the funds going to the hospital. The Guild will then make another quilt to hang in its place. In addition, these creative quilters are workingon a project for Pipe Springs Accordingto Wallace, each member will make at least two quilt blocks for the quilt. In the spring, there will be lots of activity going on at Pipe Springs as the The Canyon Country Quilt Guild donated this beautiful quilt to the new Kane County Hospital.
