Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Opinion now and since we werent warned tell you what, thats a crass and by our government, I think one cold viewpoint. I know my own Letters can safely assume that 'they didnt want us to know about it That over 100 such tests were carried out without us being Radlo&ctivo fallout warned and since our governDear Editor. ment was monitoring the fallout As you may already knew from closely, I can only draw the cofr Continued from Page 4 . recent newspaper reports, your state and county were heavily hit by the radioactive fallout from the atomic tests done by' our government in Nevada in the 50s & (XTs. I realize that it is a very disturbing thought that the UA Government and many, of our trusted public officials at the time not only planned and approved of the blasts, but also carried them cat (there were reportedly at least 100 tests), and then proceeded to monitor the fallout, where and when it hit and in what quantities. I guess someone wanted to know what might-happeto those ofus who unwittingly just . earned on with' our lives not knowing we were being repeatedly subjected to heavy hits of, radioactive fallout. Its common knowledge that a human body cannot perceive a dose of fallout with its available perceptions. So, of course, we wouldnt have known it was happening except by being told and warned by the ; people who knew. Since the information has been suppressed for so jmany years n elusion that no one was concerned about m and my little life (important though it may be to me) or you and your life (important though it may be to you). And how about my brother and sister and their lives or my parents, my uncles and aunts and their children and their lives? As a matter of fact, almost all my family members lived in Blaine County, Idaho all throughout those years. And it turns out that Blaine County was one of the most heavily hit counties during the testing pe- riod. And how about my friends? I know of at least two of them who died ofcancer and I havent' even kept in contact wit&most of them. And how about all the other decent people who lived in Idaho and Montana, North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska and Kansas, Utah and Colorado, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa? What about them? . Just because Idaho and some others were sparsely populated states, maybe no one thought it was of too much concern. But 111 health suffered a great deal because of that radiation contamination. And I have had a continuous struggle to maintain my health and try to live a decent and productive live. And I dont know anybody who feels like their life is unimportant and best viewed as a mere statistic in the overall grand scheme of things, do you? To think that someone played with my life and put it at risk and viewed it as a mere statistic is not a comforting thought to me. How do you feel about it? Well, maybe you are one of the new residents who werent even there at that time. But I was there at that time and 1 rememberwhat a truly beaut -. ful existence it was for the most part Little did we know our environment was being secretly poisoned by an unseen, unknown hand. But this is not a rabble rouse and in fact the people who were in government then are not the same people who are in government now, so lets not get into V .V ' .v ; vt ' r L fiJQv ':nm vot ii: r- - Ci can be done about the effects of radiation and other toxic substances.
