Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Opinion - WEDNESDAY MAY iS, 1937 Dixie Speaks I bought my son a car for his 16th birthday. I laid the small Matchbox car on his grave in re- membrance to a life of promise left unfulfilled, of dreams of mine and his that will remain unrealized. ..of I'm on a little boy who I'll never get to hold again-whil- e this earth. Memorial Day is a holiday set aside to remember those who have died in service to our country. But it has also become a day to honor all those loved ones who have gone before us. My heart was touched this past weekend, as I watched families decorate the graves of deceased family and friends. Life has much to teach us, but a loved one's death has even more. When someone we know dies, we tend to remember their accomplishments, the good things they did, the vitality and fulfillment they brought to our lives. Through their absence or maybe because of it, we forget the conflicts, the mistakes, the times they didn't meet up to our expectations-w- e just focus on the good things they were. Wouldn't our world be better if we could do that for the living? While I've lost many loved ones, I don't feel cheated. I feel I've been given insight into the sweetness and fragility of life. The lessons taught by those before us, is that each day should be enjoyed and lived to the fullest, be it through accomplishments in your family life, the military, in your workplace, or just in how you treat other human beings. Let's let the Memorial Day spirit help us focus on the precious nature of life, each and every day. Letters to the Editor j What is your opinion ?
