The three join arms when they sing. Theres a reason for this," says Bunting with a sly twinkle in her eyes. Willis laughed. At first, Rosalie had a habit of pulling away from the mike. The three admit that at times its been hard to juggle rehearsals, schedules, jobs and raising families. They try to practice once a week, but mostly get together when they have to practice for an event. At times, Phyllis Huntington has given her energy and talents to the trio. When Phyllis is not in Alaska, the women sing as a foursome, or Phyllis may in. How did all ofthis get started? just fill The threesome said their music teacher, LeRoy Judd, inspired them. Yet, it goes back a lot further. It seems that all three ladies inherited their love of music from their moms. Bunting, the youngest of nine, developed her vocal skills early. Encouraged by her mother, she sang solo at church functions at the age of five. It wasnt until the 7th grade that she started singing harmony in the Junior High Choir. In high school she sang in a trio, and after high school with the choir that Judd directed, then things mushroomed. Looking back. Hatch says her family was quite musical. Her mother played by ear and she had siblings that sang. She recalls singing at a church camp-owith a friend when she was twelve. Hatch sang in a trio throughout high school, and after high school she sang in Judds choir. Hatch started singing in smaller groups, first in a quartet with Bunting, then in a trio with Sherran and Mary Lou Bunting. I really eijoy singing in groups she says. Willis has been singing since she was a preschooler. One of her earliest memories is singing at the kitchen sink with her mother. Willis started singing harmony with her best friend in the 7th grade. She sang with Sherran as part of a barbershop quartet for about six years. Willis and Hatch also worked with the children of their ward in music. What is this singing group all about? Wonderful friendship, they all agreed. And love of music," said Willis. Bunting grinned. Don't forget fun." Sometimes we get together to practice and we spend an hour laughing and talking and a half hour singing," says Hatch. Tliats the truth," concludes Bunting. ut ...... |
