Make-A-Wis- Park and the Utah State h encourages caution Dear Editor: It has come to our attention that there is a telephone solic- itation in progress in Utah. The callers claim to be soliciting donations to the Make-A-Wis- h foundation. Citizens who called our office to complain all indicate that the solicitors are rude and demanding and that they use guilt-lade- n, emotional scripts. We would like the public to know that the Foundation has a policy prohibiting phone solicitation. If they receive a call asking for donations in our name, they can be absolutely certain that it is fraudulent. If anyone has information on the person or organization conducting this campaign, we hope they will call the Commerce Department, Division of Consumer Protection. This is not the first time that we have encountered pushy and exploitive phone appeals using our name. In' the past, these appeals have come from illegal boiler-roooperations or from who offer no wish grantgroups in Utah. services ing We are pleased that the community has begun to question the legitimacy of these solicitations, as witnessed by the dozens of people who alerted us to the possible misuse of our name and mission. We would also like to thank all those who made gifts in response to this solicitation, believing that they were fulfilling a wish for a Utah child illness. with a office 2091 address is Our East 4800 South in Holladay, 84117. The public is welcome always to visit us or to mail donations to that address. m ng Sincerely, Christine Sharer, President Private rights honored Dear Editor The atomic testing, the taking of the privately owned water rights on federal land, the destruction of our lumber industry and the new national monument have made many ofus more than a little pit paranoid. This demonstrated that any group with more political clout can take our property, our lives or anything else they wanted and that there was very little we could do about it. What a breath of fresh air it is to have our neighbors in Washington County and Zion National Engineers Office not only honor the existing private rights on the Virgin River, but help us meet our future needs as well. Under the reserved water ruling the Park Service could have claimed all the flow of the North and East Forks of the Virgin River. Then Washington County could have diverted all the water below the Park and used every drop of it. Instead they agreed to additional water for us and invited us to cooperate in importing water from Lake Powell. What a switch this is. They have my most heart felt appreciation and thanks. Price determines the demand for water. The delivery of an unlimited supply of free water would put the many fields that are not being used and other good land into production. How will the new Master Plan help to increase the supply of water? Would the money be better spent developing and storingthe available water on the upper Virgin River? A substantial amount of water can be pumped from Virgin River to Kanab Creek drainage with less than 300 feet lift, but substantial private property rights are involved. What is the Kane County Water Conservancy District Master Plan WORTH? John K. Little Open tetter to Trinity Church-Fredon- ia Thank you Mosdefls for all you do! Dear Editor: I have been a subscriber to the Southern Utah News for over a year, and almost every week I read of the loss of a loved one, and also the letters of appreciation from their familys for all the love and support they have received. As I read these, and think of my own dad who passed away three years ago, Dennis Mosdell and his son come to mind. I had never met the Mosdells until the passing of my dad, but it seemed like they had known me for sometime. They were so caring and sensitive to so many in pain. At the end of my dads services I issued them a numb thank you, and then drifted back into my own little world. Until now I never gave much thought to what the Mosdells go through to help so many in their time of suffering. Thank you so much for being so personal and caring with those in need. Thank you for always being there with a caring hug and a warm smile to help lighten our hearts. Thank you for helping us along the way, especially when it seemed there was no way to help. You have touched so many people with your special spirits. Thank you from the bottom of so many hearts. We love you and appreciate the wonderful job you Dear Editor A note of appreciation to the Trinity Church for providing a musical and cultural opportunity. Wednesday, February 12 the Ambassador Singers, a choir group of 32 young people from Korea gave a concert in your church. It was short notice. Tuesday it was confirmed they could come. Between performing in Page, then on their way to Las Vegs. The opening and closing hymns were sung in Korean. The rest, includingMAmazing Grace, were sung in English. Quite an accomplishment by many who do not speak or understand our language. The last portion of the program they wore their colorful native dress, looking like beautiful, bright butterflies. There is no other way to describe their music but glorious, golden living sound. To your small group, thank you very much-i- t was an unfor- do. Shanna Emery & Family gettable gift.
