Show School SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 1996 Heaton returns from Japan Emily Heaton, a junior at Val- ley High School in Orderville recently returned from a stay in Tokyo, Japan where she lived with a Japanese family. Emily was one of twenty members of Future Homemakers of America (FHAHERO) chosen as a 1996 recipient of the six-we- s ek , games, and two volleyball games. Everyone is excited about having an outstanding year and achieving a lot at our great school We would like to announce our new student government for this school year. The Student Body Presidency consists of: President Donna Prisbey; Nicea Vega; Public Relations Officer Richard Cram; and Secretary Tadi Finicum. The new Student Senate indudes: Senior Class President Molly Cluff; NathanBlack; Secretary Zelpha Knudson; and SenatoriyBundy. FHA is a national student or- ganization that helps young people become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and social issues through Family and Consumer Science Education. On Thursday, September 5, they traveled to Panguitch to play the Bobcats. The Freshmen team had a great game. They worked hard to put away the mistakes of last game. They had a' rough start, losing the first match but made up for it the next The last match, winning 15-match was difficult, but the Freshmen won, 15-TheJV team also worked hard, but experienced a difficult start, With determination losing and enthusiasm, they went back 3-1- T-bir- 9-1- 2. 6. The Varsity team again met the challenge of their rival. Their games were exciting and tense, as both teams struggled for the lead. The first match ended with the Buffs trailing. The next match was a great one for the Buffs as they got the exciteThe last ment and won, was Buffs but the game tiring, never gave up. They won Good Job, Lady Buffs! A By DeDe Sorensen Fredonia High has gotten off to a great start! We have already had a pep rally, three varsity football games, two JV It- - Japanese Exchange Program scholarship. Funded by the Kikkoman Corporation of Japan, this program provides scholarships valued at more than $4,000.00 each. FHA HERO and Youth for Understanding sponsor this program. Emily gained respect for the Japanese people and learned to accept new and different customs and ideas. She learned to speak a little of the language and to like the food. While she was learning all this she had a great time. Emily is the daughter of Douglas and Coleen Heaton ofAlton. Her chapter advisor is Mrs. Lee Stockard.
