On May 25, 1993, Kane County voters agreed with his argument that the sales tax would be a good way to share the high costs of running the remote healthcare facility with the many area tourists. Competition is one thing says Sinclair, but he worries that IHC is not being totally upfront with subscribers. I think that subscribers are beingmislead, said Sinclair. They are being lead to believe IHC has contract physicians in Kane County. Cowley insists that IHC is not misleading the public, but is in fact in the process of securing Kane County physicians. Drs. Jackson, Pandya and Roberts are in the credential process, said Cowley. The spokesperson explained that during the routine process, the doctors background and work record is checked. We expect these doctors to be on the IHC physicians (managed care) panel within the month. 50 of KCH admissions are Medicare patients, 10 are Medicaid, and less than 10 are a combination of charity care and bad debt. Taxpayers subsidize the hospitals operation when high Medicare and Medicaid utilization surpasses reimbursement. The Legislature has tried to deal with the issue of providers overtaking and harming rural healthcare. In 1995, the bill HB 181 which was later defeated, would have prevented insurance companies from attempting to dominate a rural provider area. Center has sponsored KCH in 1994 and 1995, for membership as a contract hospital for the IHC insurance plan. The IHC corporate office has never acted on the petition. IHCs apparent snub seems especially unfair considering that the Kane County Hospital sends 80 of its patient referrals to IHCs Dixie Regional Medical Centers physician specialist, and many other referrals to IHCs LDS and Primary Childrens Medical Center. I understand his (Sinclairs) concern, said Cowley. Its hard for rural hospitals across the d country to get by. The Garfield Hospital barely breaks even, but the reason we keep it open is that it is, in keeping with IHCs mission, providing needed healthcare. We are planning to offer an agreement to the Kane County Hospital if Sunday, June 18th from Noon till 10 p.m. IHC-owne- theyre interested, Dinner Menu Only added Cowley. Sinclair says that the IHC invasion may constitute a serious crisis that significantly threatens the very future of Kane County Hospital. He feels the hospital may not operationally survive until the next legislative session without dipping into sales tax revenue earmarked for a replacement building. Sinclair is requesting that Governor Leavitt intervene in the Kane CountyIHC problem. Reservations Required 1 , S - , - g 3C-- J |
