Let's give it a "Fair Shake" Folks of Kane County, this is the time of year when you should begin thinking of your own personal contribution towards the success of the Kane County Fair. This year a few added activities are being introduced. hBaby Contest is in the planning, as well as an Ugly Hat Contest , and kids get those pets groomed and primed for the Pet Show Competition. If you have a special talent, you practice up for the Talent Competition as well. By the way, you folks with freckles have an opportunity to compete for the most Git on down to the freckles in Kane County. Harvest is a cooperative food purchasing program designed to help needy people stretch their food budgets, but it is not a government program nor is it limited only to families below the poverty level. There are no income requirements. Remember its only $15.00 in cash, food stamps or money order (no checks ) and two hours of community service time. Families may order as many units as they find they need. This is a quality box that will products (such as oatmeal, rice, pasta). The units will vary each month but will always be similar. This is a great way to stretch your food dollars. Registration for the May box is underway. Typically included: 4 or 5 protein items such as: chicken, pizza, eggs, cheese, ground turkey. 7 fresh produce items such as potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes, apples, other produce or fresh fruit as available. 3 or 4 dry or canned items such as sugar, flour, seasoning mix, maccheese, rice, brownie mix.
