Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS News Council Commission gets to the CORE of March The By Richard Negus Roger Carter and Jim Mattson representing CORE, the group appointed to advise the commission on land use issues, gave their views at the April 24 meeting on a letter regarding wilder- ness. The letter to Governor Leavitt concerns a rumor that enjoys wide circulation concerning a statement the governor allegedly made regarding his willingness to compromise at 3,000,000 acres of wilderness. The letter which will be sent by the Kane County Commission, asks the governor to state this rumor is not true and asks him to be supportive of the results derived from the process he asked the counties to carry through. Quoting from the letter, governor, any compromise that departs from that proposed by the counties, would make a mockery of that very process that you in your vision and wisdom began. It was moved to send this letter to the governor, with fax copies to each one of the congressional delegation. Roads supervisor Evan Callister from Rosenberg Engi- neers gave the commission the request for bids for gravel crush- application Company, represented by Anthony Edwards, for rezoning from agriculture to manufacturing for his crushing plant east of Highway 89, caused an outcry from several land owners across the road, complaining of the dust and noise. While their concerns are justifiable, it was pointed out that the use of an agricultural zone allows rock crushing among its many uses, and some blame might attach to the real estate agent who sold them this property. Chairman Norm Carroll put his finger on the problem. Actually what weve got is these people coming in thinking they bought something, it wasnt disclosed to them they bought something else. This is a big problem weve got in this county. Realtor Lynette Foster claimed to represent owners of 106 lots in the Vermillion Cliffs subdivision, was told that although these people were in the vicinity, they had no say in this matter. Joe Judd made the motion that this zone change will be heard May 22 at 10:20 a.m. Edwards may still operate under his valid use permit. Attorney Todd Macfarlane representing Forest Hill had a request similar in nature to the March matter above. He said that his client had a 90 acre parcel west of the March property that he split into parcels of 10 acres or more, selling to individuals with the understanding the purchasers could build homes.
